As a Data Scientist, you will conduct cutting edge analyses that drive Humana’s Physical and Behavioral Health strategy and operations. You will collect and analyze large amounts of data from disparate sources to identify insights, opportunities and strategies that will help improve health outcomes. You will be responsible for presenting technical information to a broad audience. You will use claims, business, consumer and other data sources to develop innovative solutions that ultimately lead to improved clinical outcomes for our members. Your responsibilities include:
  • Work with complex data from various sources. Manipulate large data sets and navigate a variety of servers, data types, and data structures to complete statistical and other analyses;
  • Maintain transparency by partnering with others to document and communicate results of analyses as well as the processes used to develop and implement analyses;
  • Present work in clean, structured formats;
  • Provide expertise and assistance in implementing model results in ongoing product development, clinical activities, and business processes;
  • Identify and recommend new data sources that will maximize analytic output and incorporate new data into existing models;
  • Ensure and maintain data quality and reliability
Role Essentials
  • An advanced degree in a quantitative discipline, such as social science, operations research, econometrics, or statistics
  • 3+ years of experience in performing data management, mining, and manipulation along with analytics
  • Experience working with technologies and software used for data mining, manipulation and analysis, such as, SQL, SAS, R, Python, Hadoop or similar
  • Experience working with visualization/reporting tools such as Crystal, Qlikview or Tableau or similar
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to work independently under general instructions and with a team
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work with a broad spectrum of analytical staff
  • Technical and business acumen with the ability to translate information to various cross-functional partners and audiences
Role Desirables
  • Familiarity with patient level health-care data and/or clinical environments; experience using data to identify trends, make optimization suggestions and/or create strategy
  • Experience with unstructured data analysis
  • Experience with tools and methodologies specific to big data
  • Familiarity with relational databases, such as Oracle, MS SQL and Server
