Lead/Principle AI Engineers and Scientists
MITRE is working with federal sponsors on leading edge AI solutions such as helping to fight terrorism and healthcare and IRS fraud, increase aviation safety, and protect military troops with ordinance-disposing autonomous intelligent robots. MITRE even has an autonomous car designed back in the early 2000’s in our R&D labs.
We are looking for senior AI engineers and scientists to help research and create some of the top technology in this area for the federal government. Specifically, we are looking for new team members who are subject matter experts in any of the following areas: machine learning (supervised/unsupervised), knowledge-based reasoning, automated planning, computer vision, and probabilistic modeling, inference, and estimation.
You will be leading small teams in technical work, developing leadership capacity, and building artificial intelligence capabilities to meet current and anticipated sponsor needs. As a technical leader, you will engage in business development to identify, create, and leverage opportunities for technical innovation and engagement across MITRE’s broad national security and public-sector sponsor base, mentor junior staff, and share knowledge across MITRE. The successful candidate will be working in interdisciplinary teams to develop AI products and solutions, serving as a SME, leading sponsor engagements, maintaining awareness of external innovation and investments, and championing the transition/transfer of AI products and solutions across programs.

Familiarity with the DoD environment and its AI-associated work programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with mid-level to senior leaders across MITRE and the federal sponsor base. Demonstrated innovation and application of AI concepts to solve challenging government or military problems.
Exceptional communication skills; proven ability to provide internal and external guidance up and down the chain on extremely complex problems. Demonstrated ability in building sponsor relationships as a trusted advisor and building and leading high performing teams.
Ph.D./D.Sc. in artificial intelligence or related discipline and 2 years of experience in defining, developing, and deploying AI solutions for critical national efforts.
M.S. degree in artificial intelligence or related discipline and 5 years of experience in defining, developing, and deploying AI solutions for critical national efforts.
B.S. and 8 years experience
