Business Analytics

About the role

Zillow is currently seeking a Product and Business focused Data Scientist to join the Pricing Analytics Team in our Seattle office. Our team is tasked with absorbing billions of rows of data from dozens of sources, organizing them, visualizing them, and analyzing them to help inform both short- and long-term decision-making. You will not shy away from complexity and uncertainty, and you will develop a solid understanding of our mission, business models, and personas. We want you to use that intuition you've developed (both in business and real life) to use the data we have on hand to find opportunities for growth and to develop insights that help the broader organization meet its goals, improve its performance, and positively impact how our users navigate the real estate market.
Once you're here, you'll help engineer, analyze, and report on data to improve our understanding of the rentals marketplace from a product development, consumer behavior and monetization perspective.
More specifically:
Work with a wide range of teams to compile robust data sets describing user & marketplace dynamics on the rentals marketplace
Dive into Zillow's internal data (think Hive, Presto, SQL Server, Redshift, Python, Mode Analytics, Tableau, R) to identify opportunities for personalized user flows and segmented audiences.
Explore Zillow's Google Analytics clickstream data to compile AB test results describing how product changes impact user behavior and important business metrics.
Coordinate with other analysts, big data engineers, machine learning engineers, product developers, and marketers to develop a common language and approach to analyzing and communicating information and insights.
Work directly with teams across Zillow Group to develop, maintain, and document a robust set of important metrics to monitor our renter and landlord focused efforts both for day-to-day bug detection and long-term performance tracking.
Assist in the scoping, development, and evaluation of new product features and business initiatives related to renters and landlords on Zillow.
Summarize performance in weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings to evaluate the effectiveness of our existing products, measure progress toward goals, and identify areas of improvement.

About the team

Zillow Group's Pricing Analytics team helps solve problems and derive insights for organizations across the company. Each team member focuses on a cross-section of the Zillow Group community. Our team structure is very flat. You will soon find yourself communicating directly with Senior Leadership (probably even Spencer). You'll work with them to make important, strategic decisions influencing the future of the company.

Who you are

We're looking for a seasoned analyst that has: (1) the technical skills to absorb and disentangle billions of rows of data, (2) the communication skills to work with a diverse set of partners to develop and implement multiple concurrent and complex project roadmaps, (3) the curiosity to push our entire company toward newer and better ways of thinking, and (4) the tenacity to embrace and complete a challenging work stream. You have an Undergraduate or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g. science, engineering, economics, finance, statistics). You have 2+ years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis and complex problem solving (preferably focused on consumer-facing internet products and paid marketing). You have foundational analytical skills (solid understanding of SQL, total command of Excel, and experience using R and/or Python) and are a Tableau pro. You have worked with gigantic data sets and are comfortable accessing those data (even if they're in JSON) with Hive and Presto. You have interacted with clickstream data (e.g., command of Google Analytics) and raw data ingested from non-standard platforms (e.g., homegrown systems) and have derived insights to positively impact the business. You understand concepts, terminology, and measurement issues related to web traffic. You have strong written and verbal communication skills, and work well on teams of all sizes with representatives from a diverse set of technical backgrounds. You have experience successfully coordinating and leading large, long-term, multi-team, multi-disciplinary projects.
